Francesco Vas
ca was born in 1967 in Giugliano (Napoli, Italy) and currently he is Full Professor of Automatic Control at the University of Sannio (Benevento, Italy). In 1995 he received the Ph.D. in Automatic Control from the University of Napoli Federico II. In 1995 he has been appointed as Assistant Professor at the Department of Engineering of the University of Sannio (Benevento, Italy), where he has been Associate Professor of Automatic Control since 2000. In 2014  he received the Italian national qualifications for Full Professor position in Automatic Control and in Power Systems. In 2015 he has been appointed as Full Professor at the University of Sannio.

Since 1995 he developed his research and teaching activities at the Department of  Engineering of the University of Sannio, where he taught courses on Automatic Control and Switched Systems. He has been tutor for more than 100 master degree theses. From 2005 till 2010 he has been President for the master degree curriculum in Automatic Control. In 2004-2013 he has been a member of the Board for the Ph.D degree in Information Engineering. In 2013-2015 he was a member of the Academic Senate.

His research interests include the analysis and control of switched and networked dynamic systems with applications to power electronics, railway control, automotive control, and social networks. Since 2000 he has been tutor for 13 Ph.D. students and supervisor for more than 30 research engineers, involved with temporary contracts on research projects. Since 2002 he is a member of the research projects evaluation board for the Italian Minister of Research.

He has been the local unit scientific responsible for 3 european projects, 3 national research projects under competitive competitions, and 3 regional research projects. He has been the scientific responsible for several research collaborations with industrial and academic research centers. He collaborates with researchers of several international insitutions and, in particular, with the University of Kaiserslautern an with the University of Groningen. In 1997 he has been visiting scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston.

He is author of more than 120 scientific papers published on books, international journals and conferences, with an average number of 5.5 publications per year. At 2016 his publications have received more than 1500 citations, corresponding to an h-index equal to 20, and a contemporary h-index equal to 11 (Scopus source). The average of the journals impact factors where he has published is 3.654 for for his publications in the last 5 years. He served as reviewer for more than 15 international scientific journals, as a member of the programme committees for several  international conferences, and as a member of Ph.D theses committees at academic institutions in Sweden, France and Spain. From 2008 to 2014 he has been Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology. Since 1994 he is a member of IEEE Control System Society and IEEE Power Electronics Society, with Senior Member grade since 2012.
